Greeting

Favor us, Lord, and deliver us.

Lord, come quickly and help us.

Make your ways known to me, Lord;

teach me your paths.

Proclamation

Creed | In Christ Alone | CCLI Song # 3350395

Prayer for Illumination| copyright: Caldwell Presbyterian Church, Charlotte, NC

O Lord, your Word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path.  Give us grace to receive your truth in faith and love, and strength to follow on the path you set before us; through Jesus Christ, amen.

Psalter | Psalm 138

Response: I sing your praise for steadfast love;

fulfill your purpose for me.

I give you thanks, O Lord, with my whole heart;

before the gods I sing your praise;

I bow down toward your holy temple

and give thanks to your name for your steadfast

love and faithfulness;

for you have exalted your name

and your word above everything.

On the day I called, you answered me,

you strengthened my life

Response

All the rulers of the earth shall praise you, O Lord,

for they have heard the words of your mouth;

and they shall sing of the ways of the Lord,

for great is the glory of the Lord.

For the Lord is high, but regards the lowly;

yet knows the haughty from afar.

Response

Though I walk in the midst of trouble,

you preserve my life;

you stretch out your hand against the wrath of my enemies

and your right hand delivers me.

O Lord, fulfill your purpose for me;

O Lord, may your steadfast love endure for ever.

Do not forsake the work of your hands.

Let Us Pray

Response

Prayer Upon Receiving the Word

Almighty God, we give you thanks for the word that you have given us and for the one who prepared it.  As we continue to meditate on these words, we pray that you will keep our minds open so that we may have a greater understanding of your call on our lives for compassion to our brothers and sisters.  Empower us to take these words beyond these church walls, so that we may further our discipleship and the discipleship of those around us.  In your Holy name we pray, Amen.

Thanksgiving & Communion

The Great Thanksgiving | Music: Communion Setting | TFWS 2257

Preface | TFWS 2257a

The Lord be with you.

And also with you.

Lift up your hearts

We lift them up to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

It is right to give our thanks and praise.

It is right, and a good and joyful thing,
always and everywhere to give thanks to you,

Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth.

You formed us in your image
and breathed into us the breath of life.

When we turned away, and our love failed,
your love remained steadfast.

You delivered us from captivity,
made covenant to be our sovereign God,
and spoke to us through the prophets.

And so,
with all your people on earth
and all the company of heaven

We praise your name and join their unending hymn:

Sanctus | TFWS 2257b

Holy, holy, holy, Lord, God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory.

Hosanna in the highest

Hosanna in the highest

Hosanna in the highest

Blest is the one who comes
in the name of the Lord

Hosanna in the highest

Hosanna in the highest

Hosanna in the highest

Holy are you, and blessed is your Son Jesus Christ.

Your Spirit anointed him
to preach good news to the poor,
to proclaim release to the captives
and recovering of sight to the blind,
to set at liberty those who are oppressed,
and to announce that the time had come
when you would save your people.

He healed the sick, fed the hungry, and ate with sinners.

By the baptism of his suffering, death, and resurrection
you gave birth to your Church,
delivered us from slavery to sin and death,
and made with us a new covenant
by water and the Spirit.

When the Lord Jesus ascended,
he promised to be with us always,
in the power of your Word and Holy Spirit.

On the night in which he gave himself up for us,
he took bread, gave thanks to you, broke the bread,
gave it to his disciples, and said:

"Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you.

Do this in remembrance of me."

When the supper was over, he took the cup,
gave thanks to you, gave it to his disciples, and said:

"Drink from this, all of you;
this is my blood of the new covenant,
poured out for you and for many
for the forgiveness of sins.

Do this, as often as you drink it,
in remembrance of me."

And so,
in remembrance of these your mighty acts in Jesus Christ,
we offer ourselves in praise and thanksgiving
as a holy and living sacrifice,
in union with Christ's offering for us,
as we proclaim the mystery of faith.

Pour out your Holy Spirit on us gathered here,
and on these gifts of bread and wine.

Make them be for us the body and blood of Christ,
that we may be for the world the body of Christ,
redeemed by his blood.

By your Spirit make us one with Christ,
one with each other,
and one in ministry to all the world,
until Christ comes in final victory
and we feast at his heavenly banquet.

Through your Son Jesus Christ,
with the Holy Spirit in your holy Church,
all honor and glory is yours, almighty Father,
now and forever. Amen.

Psalter | Psalm 82

Response:  Deliverance, deliverance belongs to the Lord.

Arise, O Lord, deliver us.

God takes his stand in the divine council;

God gives judgement among the gods:

How long will you judge unjustly
by granting favor to the wicked?

Give justice to the lowly and the orphan;
Maintain the right of the poor and the destitute!

Rescue the lowly and the needy.

Deliver them from the power of the wicked!

They don’t know;  they don’t understand;
they wander around in the dark.

All the earth’s foundations shake

I hereby declare, “You are gods,
children of the Most High – All of you!

But you will die like mortals;
you will fall down like any prince.”

Rise up, God!  Judge the earth
because you hold all the nations in your possession!
